Professional WORKSHOPS

We offer free or inexpensive training workshops to professional theatre artists. They can be in physical theatre, clowning, devising, puppetry, or whatever strikes our fancy at the moment! Our goals are to cultivate skills, build connections, and help strengthen our community. They are sometimes led by resident company members and sometimes by guest master artists. These workshops are designed for performers with previous theatre experience.

We welcome all ages, genders, physical dis/abilities, body types and backgrounds.

The Simple Clown

Led by Jason Slavick, LaB Artistic Director and LaB company members

Clown’s two most important things: simple and simple.

The Clown does ONE thing at a time. Doesn’t plan. Doesn’t look ahead. Physically and mentally. One thing. SIMPLE. The Clown comes to each moment with naivete. Innocence. The Clown is SIMPLE.

In this workshop we’ll focus on being entirely in the moment. Our exercises will include easy improvisation, problem solving in Clown logic, exploring the body, and some simple weight sharing.

Come prepared to be active and silly. Wear loose clothes and sneakers. If you already own a Clown nose, please bring it. If not, we’ll provide for you. Join us for some fun.
